It is a major source of the reductant, NADPH and pentose sugars for the biosynthesis of nucleotides. Also, PPP is the main pathway for pentose utilization. WebThe pathway consists of two phases: an oxidative phase that generates NADPH and a non-oxidative phase that involves the interconversion of sugars.
