Pentose phosphate pathway atp

Web21. apr 2024 · Pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) is one of three key central metabolic pathways. It is ubiquitous, present in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and occurs in cytosol. It is a major source of the reductant, NADPH and pentose sugars for the biosynthesis of nucleotides. Also, PPP is the main pathway for pentose utilization. WebThe pathway consists of two phases: an oxidative phase that generates NADPH and a non-oxidative phase that involves the interconversion of sugars. In the oxidative phase of PPP, two molecules of NADP+ are reduced to NADPH through the conversion of G6P to ribulose 5-phosphate (Ru5P).

Ribulose 5-P has two possible fates, but only one differs from glycolysis, so the two distinguishing products of the pathway are ribose and NADPH.

WebThe pentose phosphate shunt is the most studied pathway in T. cruzi, and the participating enzymes have been well characterized both molecularly and biochemically ( Igoillo-Esteve et al., 2007 ).
